PORTRAITS AND STATUES IN
PARLIAMENT HOUSE
Built in the year 1927 to house the Central Legis-
lative Assembly and the Council of State, Parliament
House stands as a symbol to our commitment to a
democratic way of life.
As a token of remembrance, love and respect, it is
only fitting, that the memories of those freedom
fighters, who underwent untold hardships in the service
of the country and built up the edifice of the parliamen-
tary system in India with their dedication, tireless zeal
and devotion, should be honoured in Parliament House.
Photographs and portraits of some of the brightest stars
in the galaxy of freedom fighters now adorn the circular
walls of the Central Hall, the inner lobby of Lok Sabha
and the various Commitee Rooms on the first iloor.
In the lawns inside and outside the building, a few
statues have also been installed. These portraits and
statues would be a source of inspiration to the succeed-
ing generations of Members of Parliament, who come
to serve the nation.
Thumb-nail sketches of the leaders whose portraits
etc. are displayed at different places in the Parliament
House arc included in this booklet along with their
photographs.
