GUIDE TO PARLIAMENT    HOUSE
                        These  murals  have  been  painted  by  eminent  artists  selected  from  all  over  the
                   country  under  the  supervision  of  the  Artists  Sub-Committee  with  the  Speaker  as
                   Chairman   and  well-known  artists  and  historians,  archaeologists, etc.  as  its  members.
                       Portraits :  In  several  other  places in the Parliament  House the  walls are decora­
                   ted with the portraits  of national leaders.  Most  of them  are displayed in the  Central
                   Hall  as  already  mentioned  in  Chapter  VI.  Small  portraits  of  G.  V.  Mavalankar,
                   Schidananda   Sinha,  B.  Das,  Dr.  Shyama  Prasad  Mookerjee,  C.  Vijiaraghavachariar,
                   Phirozshah   Mehta,   Dinshaw   Edulji  Wacha,  T.  Prakasam,   Ran   Ahmed    Kidwai,
                   Surendranath   Banerjee,Raja  Ram   Mohan   Roy,  Bhagat   Singh  and  B.  K.  Dutt  are
                   displayed  in the  Committee  Rooms,   Lobbies,  etc.

















































                       Statues j Busts:
                       CHANDRA    GUPTA    MAURYA   :  A  symbolic  bronze   statue  of  Chandra   Gupta
                   Maurya,  one of the  greatest  personages  of ancient  Indian  History,  who  reigned  from
                   321 B. C. to 296 B. C. is installed  on a red sand-stone pedestal in the courtyard opposite
                   Gate  No.  5  of  Parliament  House.  This  29" high  statue  was  made  by  Mrs.  Hilda
                   Selegman,  a noted sculptress.  The statue bears the following  inscription  at its  base :
                          "Shepherd  boy Chandragupta    Maurya   dreaming of  India he  was  to  create".
