SARDAR VALLABHBHAI PATEL
(1875—1950)

"Iron Man of India". Hero of the Rarrioli Satya-
graha of 1928. A sagacious statesman, combining the
qualities of realism, patriotism, courage, shrewdness
and generosity. Chief architect of a unified and inte-
grated nation brought about through the merger of
numerous princely States without coercion or violence.
First Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of
Independent India. Laid the foundation of strong
administration in the country.
