MOTILAL NEHRU
                                (1861—1931)
                 "Prince among Patriots", dedicated freedom fighter,
               eminent lawyer and a great parliamentarian. A pro-
               duct of the three mingling cultures—the Aryan, the
               Moghal and the European, he was fully emancipated
               from the bonds of orthodoxy and sectarianism; Founder
               of the Swaraj Party along with Deshbandhu C. R. Das
               within the Congress and took the independence move-
               ment within the four walls of the Legislature. Twice
               elected President of Indian National Congress in 1919
               and 1928.   First leader of the Opposition in the
               Central Legislative Assembly and leader of the Swaraj
               Party. Led the Opposition with tact and ability.
