LALA LAJPAT RAI
(1865—1928)
"Lion of Punjab". Outstanding leader, statesman,
historian, educationist, journalist, distinguished editor,
ardent social and religious reformer, talent and
powerful orator and a shrewd parliamentarian; Deputy
Leader of the Nationalist Party in the Central Legisla-
tive Assembly. Laid the foundation of the traditions of
constructive criticism of Government policies. Formed
the trinity of militant leaders along with Tilak and Bipin
Chandra Pal. Died a martyr's death while leading a
demonstration against the Simon Commission in
Lahore.
