LOKAMANYA BAL GANGADHAR TILAK

(1856—1920)
Great patriot, valiant fighter, astute lawyer, educa-
tionist, an erudite scholar, philosopher and leader of
masses. Started the Home Rule League. Bequeathed
to the nation the slogan "Freedom is my birthright and
I will have it", which inspired his generation and the
generations to come. Architect of India's freedom and
was popularly called the "Father of Indian Unrest",

Unveiled by—Jawaliarlal Nehru, Prime Minister
on 28-7-1956.
