B. R. AMBEDKAR
(1891—1956)
In the outer lawns adjoining the Lok Sabha Marg
stands a bronze statue 3.66 metres high of Dr. B. R.
Ambedkar, a great Indian scholar, jurist, reformer,
revolutionary, a man of vision, champion of human
rights and indomitable fighter for the dignity of man.
He was an undisputed leader and champion of the
downtrodden sections of the society. Was President,
Scheduled Castes Federation for a long time. As
Chairman of the Constitution Drafting Committee of
the Constituent Assembly, he played a historic role in
framing the Constitution of India. He was Minister
of Law in the Government of India, 1947—51.
The statue was sculptured by B. V. Wagh and
donated by Dr. Balasahib Ambedkar Memorial
Committee.
It was unveiled by Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, President
of India, on the 2nd April, 1967.
