MADAN MOHAN MALAVIYA
(1861—1946)
One of the shining lights of the Constitutional move-
ment in India. Able parliamentarian and eloquent
speaker; was for long a Member of the United Pro-
vinces Legislative Council and the Central Legislative
Assembly. Great social and religious reformer,
profound student of ancient Indian History and erudite
scholar. Although a staunch Hindu, he never allowed
his religious faith to interfere with national interests.
Founder of the Banaras Hindu University. Twice
elected President of the Indian National Congress in
1909 and 1916.
