MAULANA ABUL KALAM AZAft'
                                 (1888—1958)

                 Great nationalist leader, savant, philosopher, states-
               man, powerful writer, superb conversationalist, elo-
               quent speaker, eminent scholar of Persian, Arabic and
               Urdu and Muslim theology. A typical representative
               of Oriental culture.  A devout Muslim and ardent
               patriot, who worked earnestly for communal harmony
               throughout life. President of Indian National Congress,
                1923, 1930—32 and 1940—46. Was the first Minister
               of Education in Independent India from 1947 to 1958.
