                          APPENDIX X
LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT TO THE HONOURABLE THE
SPEAKER, DATED THE 30TH JANUARY, 1950.
You know that the pages of the calligraphed copy
of the Constitution were decorated by some artists
under the general superintendence of Shri Nandalal
Bose. I wrote to the Prime Minister on the 25th
January suggesting that some honorarium might be
paid to those artists. The Prime Minister has replied
       as-in the copy enclosed.

I shall be grateful if you will kindly get into touch
with Shri Nandalal Bose in the matter and finalise the
proposal, far the? payment of honorarium.

                          APPENDIX XI
LETTER FROM THE HONOURABLE THE SPEAKER . TO SHRI
NANDALAL BOSE, DATED THE 9TH FEBRUARY. 1950.
I understand from the Honourable President (Dr.
Rajendra Prasad) that the pages of the calligraphed
copy of the Constitution were decorated .by some
artists under your general superintendence, and that
it was suggeLted (that some honorarium might be paid
to these artists. I entirely agree with the suggestion.
The Department has been transferred to my control
since the inauguration of the new Constitution on the
26th January, 1950. I am. therefore, enquiring of you
informally as to the amount of honorarium that you
would consider proper for the artists. I may say that
the artists have done their work out of love and with
patriotic zeal, and it is impossible to value their work
in terms of money, and yet it is necessary that Govern
ment should express their sense of appreciation of the
work by some honorarium as a token thereof.
Will you kindly let me have, therefore, the names of
the artists and the amount of honorarium that you
would propose to each? On ■ eceipt .of your letter, I
