                                   TOTAL 1,80,000
Out of it we may expect to realise about Rs. 20,000
in future by way of sale.

The work will take at least a year, and perhaps a
little more by the time the copies are printed and got
       ready.
As the amount involved is a substantial one, I
thought I should consult you before I proceed with
the commitments in the matter. You will note that
there are no commitments for printing. The present
commitments are restricted to calligraphy, decoration
and illumination. The cost in respect of which will
come to about Rs. 50,000 in all. If you so like, we
may defer the question of printing for the time being.
But if it is desired that the Editions should be out
before the election of the New Parliament, it is neces
sary that the work of printing should also be taken
in hand side by side as Calligraphy and decoration
proceed. The press also will have to be given some
       time.

As regards the printing, I might also further state
that there is an offer from Shri Ram Nath Goenka,
M.P., to do the needful in the matter. In his letter
of the 21st November, 1949, he states:—
"If you desire that a thousand copies of the
Constitution should be printed and given free
to the Government of India, it can be easily
               arranged."
I am not myself very clear as to whether this offer
is made after taking into consideration our require
       ments, as stated above.
An early reply is requested to enable me to proceed
with the work without any delay in the matter.
