Speaker of Parliament regarding the decoration and
illumination of the calligraphic pages of the Constitu
tion of India.
2. I am to inform you that the following decisions
have been arrived at: —
(i) The work of decoration and illumination will be
both with respect to the English as well as the Hindi
copy of the Constitution.
(ii) You may proceed with the decoration and illu
mination work.
(iii) The rates of honorarium for the artists quoted
in your letter dated the 19th February, 1950 referred
to above have been accepted by the Honourable the
Speaker. Necessary sanction is being applied for and
will be obtained in due course.
(iv) The Honourable the Speaker has aiso accepted
your proposal of incurring extra expenditure on
account of material used in connection with illumina
tion. In this connection, it may be stated that a sum
of Rs. 5,000 is being earmarked for this purpose. A
sum of Rs. 700 has been remitted to you telegraphi
cally towards expenses in connection with the illumi
nation work. In case you are in need of further
instalments, you may write to us and we shall be glad
to place the money at'your disposal.
(v) It is proposed to send the matter to press for
being printed af an early date. It would facilitate
if the pages of the illuminated copies are sent to us as
and when completed so that the whole work including
the printing of the final copy is completed in the near
future.

The undersigned is directed to enclose herewith
copies of letters No. D. 505/50, dated the 2nd March
